SI St. Augustine goes to Conference!

SI St. Augustine was well represented at this year’s annual Soroptimist International Conference which took place in Barbados. There was a lovely mix of the seasoned Conference goers namely Club President Alice Lucas H.M.B and Drs. Jeannette Morris, Martha Frederick-Franklin and Nesta Patrick as well as the first timers – Suzanne Roach and Rae-Ann Clement. The Sisters enjoyed the various day’s proceedings which included the Federation Flag Ceremony and the AGM.

Interestingly the Club Members actually participated in the Conference proceedings!

  • President Alice represented the Club at the PA meeting, highlighting the Club’s work at the Women’s Prison in Arouca; the Club went on to win an award for this project under the International Goodwill and Understanding.

  • Martha was asked to give the vote of thanks to guest speaker Tessa Chaderton-Shaw.

  • Rae-Ann was asked on stage along with other Memorial Fund awardees, as she was one of four receiving funding to attend Conference.

It was truly a memorable time, and one that has provided inspiration to all in attendance.

The Club also invited the Alzheimer’s Association, whose president is a Soroptimist, to provide much needed information on this disease, answering questions and distributing brochures. There was also keen interest, in the food display which cleverly included local produce, beautifully prepared by the students of the Human Ecology Unit of the University of the West Indies and their lecturer who is also a member of the club. The day was enjoyed by all, and club members agreed that the information was well received by all who attended.
